We knew that TROS had one big problem going into production, and that was the death of Carrie Fisher. Someone call Keri Russell’s agent please, and make that happen. I liked her so much I hope she gets a Disney+ show. In her brief moments on screen, she becomes more interesting and well rounded than Boba Fett ever was in the original films.

A bounty hunter and old flame of Poe’s, like any good badass mercenary in the Star Wars universe, she has a cool helmet that she never takes off. The coolest by far was Zorii Bliss, played by Keri Russell. And hands down, Emperor Palpatine is maybe the best mustache twirling, pure evil bad guy in film history. The fact that he was a sort of zombie-fied version of himself, held together with tubes and wires in a visual nod to the works of Alien designer HR Giger, was the icing on the cake for me. The saga began with him, it should end with him. Some people might grumble at the fact that Ian McDiarmid was brought back as Emperor Palpatine, but I for one loved it. The fact that this was the last scene they shot together for the film probably is what made it feel so real, but it also totally worked. When the three of them embrace after the final battle, it really felt like friends who love each other and have been through hell together. Because, Daisy Ridley, John Boyega and Oscar Isaac have great chemistry as a thruple (so to speak). This trilogy’s main trio finally get to go on a adventure together in this movie, and I instantly wanted at least one more film of these three characters together. While the blue-green tint of the film wasn't exactly on many fans' list of most egregious offenses, some will still surely see its removal as a positive. It’s a pretty big flaw of TFA in my opinion that we never see Rey, Finn, and Poe together on a mission. This included massively reducing Kelly Marie Tran's role as Rose Tico after the actress suffered a deluge of hate and toxicity from the less palatable sectors of the Star Wars fandom, as well as a number of plot decisions largely seen as uninspired at best. This was largely due to the film's perceived attempt at catering to the loudest critics of its predecessor, The Last Jedi, to the point where fully set up plot details were dropped entirely in the interest of fan service. The Rise of Skywalker has been famously poorly received, even from fans of the Star Wars sequel trilogy. This is one change that is likely to be more universally welcomed. The thing is the subtitles in the original release listed many of them as simply "Male Jedi" or "Female Jedi 2," leaving some fans to look up the names themselves. The scene featured surprise voice cameos like Ashley Eckstein as Ahsoka Tano, Liam Neeson as Qui-Gon Jinn, and even deeper cuts like Jennifer Hale as Aayla Secura. When Rey is at her lowest point, the voices of past Jedi all speak to her and give her strength.

Another, arguably more substantial update comes from the subtitles in the film's final act.
